ANTI HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNIT: WEST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT EXECUTIVE FORCE.

On 15th September 2010, the Government of Meghalaya passed a notification for creation of Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) date 15th September 2010 in all districts of Meghalaya vide Letter No HPL 156/2010/17 dated 15/09/2010. An Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) was set up in Jaintia Hills District headed by the Additional Superintendent of Police along with six members constituting of Circle Inspectors from Amlarem, Jowai and Khliehriat with three women sub Inspectors. With the bifurcation of the erstwhile Jaintia Hills District into East and West Jaintia Hills District, West Jaintia Hills District came into existence on 31st July 2012 with its Head Quarter in Jowai. In this connection, a new team was reconstituted to form the Anti Human Trafficking Unit for West Jaintia Hills District as follows:

1. The Anti Human trafficking Unit is directly under the Supervision of the Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills District.


2. The AHTU have a monthly review meeting to discuss on cases related to Human Trafficking.


3. On received of any information related to human trafficking, the members are to take immediate action and to seek co-operation from the respective OCs and ICs.


4. The team keeps regular contact with women groups/NGOs/Headmen to keep track of any Human Trafficking case.
